About the role

As Head of IT Security, you’ll have the overall responsibility over Kustom’s IT security, security infrastructure, and compliance. You make sure that their company network, applications, and data are protected from unauthorized access and threats. When working closely with their product teams, you will provide expertise in both proactive and reactive security measures, as well as ensuring compliance with security standards and best practices.

Among things you’ll be doing

  • Design, implement, and manage security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and endpoint protection
  • Monitor security systems for unusual activity, investigate incidents, and respond to security breaches in a timely and effective manner
  • Manage vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analysis to identify potential weaknesses and mitigate risks
  • Collaborate with product teams to design secure systems, applications, and networks with a focus on secure coding practices and threat modeling
  • Lead the investigation of security incidents, root cause analysis, and assist in developing incident response plans and procedures
  • Develop and conduct security training programs to enhance staff awareness and adherence to security policies
  • Work closely with other technical teams (e.g., DevOps) to integrate security throughout the development and deployment processes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR) and assist in audits and regulatory reporting
  • Serve as the primary contact for IT security and compliance-related questions in RFPs and other commercial discussions. 

This role reports into Kustom’s CTO.

About you

  • You have a broad background in IT security and have led security efforts in a modern cloud-hosted tech environment
  • We see that you probably come from a background where you worked hands-on with security engineering and/or working with securing enterprise networks and systems
  • Proficiency with security tools (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM systems, endpoint protection tools)
  • Knowledge of encryption protocols, VPN technologies, and secure network design
  • Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container security (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, or similar certifications preferred
  • You have familiarity with standard security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and PCI-DSS

About the Role

As a Senior Data Engineer you’ll take ownership of their data platform, lead the design of scalable data pipelines, and drive the evolution of their data architecture. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to transform raw data into actionable insights that power their products and operations.

This is a pivotal role – their data infrastructure isn’t just powering dashboards and reports; it’s foundational to the next generation of AI-driven capabilities we’re building. With intelligent agents and automation on the horizon, high-quality, well-structured data is central to our product strategy and customer experience. 

You’ll also play a key role in shaping Kaisa’s overall data strategy, ensuring their platform not only meets today’s needs but also scales with future demands. From architecting robust pipelines to mentoring team members, this is a high-impact position with significant room for influence.

Who You Are

You’re a curious, hands-on data engineer with strong technical chops and a natural drive to lead. You enjoy solving messy problems with clean systems, and you care deeply about data quality, clarity, and performance. You’re confident in technical conversations, open to feedback, and motivated by working with smart, kind teammates.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Solid experience designing and building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and AWS services
  • Hands-on experience with some or all of: Spark, AWS EMR, Redshift, Glue, MySQL
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and governance
  • Experience leading data architecture work and evolving infrastructure based on business needs and have the ability to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR), and compliance best practices to safeguard sensitive information
  • Ability to define and drive data quality frameworks, including automated testing and validation processes
  • Experience with real-time or streaming data processing technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, or similar)

  • Strong collaboration skills – working closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and driving team best practices
  • Excellent communication skills – able to share context clearly across tech and non-tech audiences

  • Experience contributing to data strategy and roadmap development
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, containerized environments (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes)
  • A background in data-driven product development, experimentation, or analytics
